Vegetarian Turtle!
Green Turtles are the largest hard-shelled turtle. They can weigh up to 300-350 pounds! Their diet, which consists mainly of sea grass and algae, causes them to have green hued fat.
These turtles tear-dropped shaped shell (say that 10x fast:) is called a 'carapace' and they can get up to 3-4 feet long!
A Sea Gathering!
They can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans and Mediterranean Sea.
The largest gathering occur in two places:

Costa Rica - 30,000 females come to reproduce and give birth

Great Barrier Reef in Australia - 60,000 will come here!

(You might by thinking - this isn't on the OR coast, what kinda guide are you?! While these sea creatures aren't commonly seen in the Oregon Coast waters, I still wanted to include them due to their beauty and significance to the ocean waters!)
Ancient Mariners
Green Turtles, and Sea Turtles in general, have been traveling the seas for 100 million+ years! This makes them one of the oldest marine species on the planet!!

They follow the ocean currents which go all around the Globe, some being 13,000 miles long!

Their life span can be up to 70+ years. Wow, the wisdom these creatures must hold! ​
Special Lil' Tooth
Baby Turtles use their 'egg tooth' - a temporary, sharp projection on their bill that only is there for hatching purposes - is used to break free from their home they grew in and see the outside world!

A mother Turtle will lay 100-115 eggs in the warm sands on the beach, where they grow in their natural incubation for about 2 months. Once they hatch, using that special tooth, they gravitate towards light out of the shadows, from their sand dune to the ocean waters!

Natal Homing!
Mother Turtles always return to their original place of birth, even after traveling miles away from home. They use Natal Homing and Imprinting to navigate their way back. Green Turtles will use the Magnetic Signature (the unique combination of magnetic prosperities held within the different minerals in the soil and sand) and Imprinting (a remembering or learning of this unique geomagnetic energy) to come back for the laying of their own eggs!
